Castle Vieljaeren Hombourg

chat vieljaerenVieljaeren, fortified manor of the Duchy of Limburg, this ‘farm castle’ surrounded by water, has kept its primitive character almost intact. It dates from the 14th century. The castle was burned in 1286 by the Duke of Brabant John 1 during the war of succession of Limburg and then rebuilt. It is built of sandstone, has a 'U-shaped' and includes the body of the main building, flanked by two wings.  The main building consists of three levels (level1: basements and level 2 and 3 : housing) and is accessible by a sandstone bridge with two arches. It was classified 30 March 1987. The castle is not accessible.
