The valley of the Gulp

The valley oft he Gulp

vue valléeThe Gulp is a small tributary river of the ‘Gueule’ that rises north of Henri-Chapelle. She dug its valley in a hilly wooded area with meadows, hedges, thickets, meadows ... The meadowq occupy the largest part of the agricultural area. Wood occupy the steeper slopes and ridges. There settlements are scattered.  The few farms and houses are located often along the road that follows the valley. The landscape area does not encompass village, only the recent extensions of the village of Hombourg. In the valley, there are some remarkable built features such as two old mills and two farms-castles and do not forget the American cemetery.
The nature reserve Gulp was recently created to protect the fragments of semi-natural habitats currently highly threatened everywhere in Wallonia. It includes a wildlife with sensitive species such as the red-backed shrike (Lanius collurio), the kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) and an important population of common lizard (Zootoca vivipara).
